The Wildcats finished 13-8 last season. Coach Larson expects the team to make a jump and compete for a league and regional championship. Larson believes the arms on the mound will be the deciding factor on how far this team goes.
“We have some good young pitchers and a lot of experience back on the mound as well as in our lineup,” Larson said. “I am excited to get the season going!”
The softball team, led by head coach Nicholas Chapman, will have the unique advantage of not replacing any graduating seniors from the 2023 season. The entire starting varsity lineup will return in 2024 with a full season of experience and chemistry under their belts.
“My expectations for this group this year are high,” Chapman said. “We have a big group of seniors finally and they are in this for one last ride. They are bought in to making this a successful season for us.”
The five seniors include second baseman Jenna Cauthon, catcher Rylee Hickey, infielder Izzy Moreland, shortstop Ashley Moreau, and pitcher Megan Quinn.
Other key returners are junior catcher Brynley Bauer, junior outfielder Katie McKain, junior first baseman Addy Stohs, and sophomore outfielder Shyloh Waite.
The Lady ‘Cats finished 7-14 as a team last year and will look to compete for a league championship and make some noise in the postseason.
“I don’t know the last time Louisburg softball has had an above .500 season, if ever,” Chapman said. “I truly believe this could be the group to do that.”
The girls' soccer team finished the regular season 12-4 and reached the regional championship game under head coach Ben York. The Lady Wildcats also won the Frontier League title and had seven players earn all-league honors.
Rowan Yows, Adyson Ross, and Lexi Hampton earned first-team honors. Bree Gassman and Hailey Sword earned second-team honors, while Lola Edwards and Macy Lemke earned honorable mentions.
